World Water Day 2026
World Water Day 2026

Sunday, March 22
10 AM to 3 PM
Free with membership or admission
Water connects us all. Each year on March 22, people around the world celebrate World Water Day — a United Nations observance established in 1993 to highlight the importance of freshwater and inspire action on the global water crisis. Join ScienceWorks for a day of hands-on experiences exploring water science, conservation, and stewardship.
With our immersive exhibit, Ripple Effect: Hands-On with Hydrodynamics, water’s movement comes to life through interactive play and experimentation. Inside and outside the museum, you’ll investigate how water shapes our landscapes, supports ecosystems, and sustains our communities.
Head outdoors with Frances Oyung, Rogue Riverkeeper Program Manager, for “Follow the Raindrops: How We Can Protect Water Quality,” an interactive exploration tracing how water moves through our landscape — and how our everyday actions impact local waterways.
Throughout the day, connect with community partners working to protect our region’s water, including Ashland Climate Collaborative and Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District.
Get hands-on across the museum and grounds: build a beaver dam with the Rogue River Watershed Council in Pacific Crest Cove, create a DIY water filter in the Tinkering Studio, and catch a cloud-in-a-bottle demonstration at Exploration Station. Southern Oregon University Scientific Collections has loaned us beaver specimens for you to scrutinize up close.
Food trucks will be onsite, including Allium Wood Fired Pizza serving fire-baked pies and Kona Ice of SW Jackson County with refreshing shaved ice in a rainbow of flavors — perfect for refueling between activities.
Whether you’re turning a water wheel, filtering sediment, or imagining solutions to global water challenges, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for water, and the people working to protect it.
Join us March 22 from 10 AM to 3 PM — and let your curiosity flow!
