Celebrate your special day with a hands-on, science-filled birthday party at ScienceWorks! Your party includes all-day museum admission, our private party room for 90 minutes, and plenty of time to explore our interactive exhibits.
Celebration Room
The Celebration Room is our colorful, family-friendly party space — the perfect spot for birthdays and special gatherings. Tucked away through the Subterranean Science Cave and adjacent to the Science Theatre, this vibrant space features five 6-person tables, a full chalkboard wall for doodles, messages, and creative fun. The Celebration Room is also available for private rentals, making it a great choice for events of all kinds.
Prepare Your Birthday Formula!
Congratulations, citizen scientist! You’re about to design the ultimate birthday party experiment. Each decision you make will change the outcome of your celebration; carefully record your choices and observe the results!
- Identify your group: Are you a member or non-member of ScienceWorks? This determines your price control variables.
- Set your sample size: Will your experiment include up to 20 participants or 21–30 participants?
- Need more than 30 participants? Contact us ahead of time, extra fees apply.
- Add an experimental variable: Would you like to include a hands-on workshop? (Max participants = 20)
- Introduce rewards: Do you want to include goody bags for $9.95 each? Members receive 10% off goody bags —hypothesize how these might amplify the experiment’s fun factor!
- Designate your time: Choose your timeslot to begin your laboratory adventure; standard timeslots are on Saturdays and Sundays.

*Please Note: Birthday party timeslots will shift beginning January 1, 2026. The new 2026 timeslots will be 10 AM to 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM to 2 PM, and 3 PM to 4:30 PM.

Now that your celebration is taking shape, it’s time to fine-tune your variables.
Add goody bags: Amplify your experiment with themed take-home materials. Pick the Astronaut Adventure Bag, Forest Friends Critter Kit, or Prehistoric Party Pouch. Goody bags are $9.95 each and members receive a 10% discount.
Add a workshop: Choose one of our STEAM-focused activities led by ScienceWorks educators. Workshops accommodate up to 20 participants ready to test, build, and explore.

Goody Bags
Workshops
Each workshop includes a 30-minute hands-on activity for up to 20 guests.
Workshops will begin 15 minutes after your rental start time. A member of our dedicated education team will join you in the Celebration Room and lead a group of up to 20 guests in a hands-on activity for 30 minutes. Workshops require the use of at least two tables in the Celebration Room. The workshop selection will change in 2026.
Robotics in Space
Work in small groups to try to retrieve samples from Mars using our color-coding Ozobots.
Microscope Lab
Introduce Laboratory Science by using microscopes to identify various specimens!
Owl Pellet Dissection
Learn about owl biology and dissect a sanitized owl pellet. You can even keep your favorite finds!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What time can we arrive to set up, and how long can we stay after our timeslot?
- Hosts may access the Celebration Room 10 minutes before their party start time. We kindly ask that you finish your celebration and exit the room by the end of your registered 90 minute timeslot. All party attendees receive museum admission for the entire day, so you and your guests are welcome to enjoy the public areas of the museum from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Q. Who counts toward my guest count?
- All party attendees are included in your guest count, including the birthday star and their family. However, children ages 0–2 are always free at ScienceWorks and are not counted toward your total.
Q. What if I have more guests than I registered?
- We offer two pricing tiers (1–20 guests and 21–30 guests) with member and non-member rates. If you register for 1–20 guests and exceed that number, you will be charged $10 per additional person on the day of your party.
Q. If I would like to reserve the Celebration Room for more time than the 90 minute timeslot, can I extend my reservation?
- Yes! If you’re interested in a longer birthday party, please call the front desk during business hours at 541-482-6767, and we’ll gladly help you arrange an extended rental based on room availability. Party rentals can be extended for an additional two hours (the previous or following 90 minute timeslot plus the 30-minute transition time) at the same rate as the standard 90 minute rental.
Q. If I want to make any changes, upgrades, workshop add-ons, or cancellations to my birthday party registration, when do I need to do that?
- All changes and upgrades must be made no later than 14 days before your party date. Reservations canceled at least 14 days in advance are eligible for a refund, minus the non-refundable $50 deposit. Parties canceled within 14 days of the reserved date are not eligible for a refund.
Q. Does ScienceWorks provide food and beverages?
- ScienceWorks does not provide food or drinks, but you are welcome to bring your own. For the easiest setup and cleanup, we recommend options like pizza, cupcakes, and bottled beverages. All food must stay in the Celebration Room or in designated eating spaces in Kranzler Hall (lobby).
Q. Will there be a refrigerator or freezer where we can keep our food and beverages?
- We do not have a refrigerator or freezer available for party use, but you are welcome to bring a cooler. For easier setup and cleanup, we recommend using a wheeled cooler.
Q. Does ScienceWorks provide plates, cups, napkins, or cutlery?
- No. We kindly ask that you bring all the materials you’ll need to serve your refreshments.
Q. Can we use candles?
- We do not allow open flames in the museum. We kindly ask that you wait to use candles until you are home.
Q. Can we bring our own decorations?
- The Celebration Room comes decorated with a “Happy Birthday” sign and streamers, and it includes a chalkboard wall for guests to enjoy. You’re welcome to bring your own additional decorations, but we kindly ask that you do not use confetti or piñatas.
