Our Madagascar hissing cockroaches enjoyed a special treat today: organic fresh strawberries! These fascinating insects may not be everyone’s idea of a cuddly creature, but they are amazing animals with important roles in their ecosystems.
Madagascar hissing cockroaches are expert decomposers, helping break down plant material and return nutrients to the environment. They also have one of the coolest names in the animal kingdom, thanks to the hissing sound they make by pushing air through tiny openings in their bodies!
Have you ever met a Madagascar hissing cockroach? What would you feed them if you could?
Come say hello to these incredible creatures during your next visit to ScienceWorks!
