ScienceWorks for Teens: Camps, After-School, & Internships

ScienceWorks is a place where teens can grow and thrive.

At ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, we believe in nurturing curiosity and supporting young people at every stage of their development — especially during the transformative teen years. Whether a teen is discovering a new interest, exploring future career paths, or building confidence through hands-on learning, ScienceWorks offers opportunities to grow and thrive.

A key part of that growth is access to meaningful STEAM education  — an interdisciplinary approach that connects Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. STEAM learning encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking — skills that are essential in today’s world and tomorrow’s careers.

From summer day camps to after-school programs, teens ages 10 and up are a vital part of the ScienceWorks community. Here's how:

Camps & Programs for Young Teens

Our summer and school-year day camps engage kids ages 10 – 12 with exciting, age-appropriate STEAM challenges that spark imagination and build skills. We also offer a summer Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, giving teens ages 13 - 15 the chance to build leadership experience while assisting with camps for younger kids.

After-School Programs

In collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley, we offer a free after-school program for students in grades 6 – 8. These sessions provide a welcoming environment for exploration, creativity, and connection — all while reinforcing school-year learning through playful science.

New! Teen Mentorship Program — Now Accepting Applications

We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new paid internship opportunity for teens ages 14 – 17. We’re launching a Teen Mentorship Program, a unique, grant-funded initiative that offers real-world experience in a museum setting. We’re currently accepting applications for two paid intern positions at $15.05/hour, up to 160 hours total, over 2 to 3 months.

What Interns Will Do

Interns will rotate through several ScienceWorks departments, or select a focus based on their interests, including:

  • Education & Public Programs: Support hands-on activities, special events, and family-friendly science engagement.
  • Exhibits: Learn how we maintain and improve exhibits, and help ensure they’re fun and functional.
  • Operations & Guest Services: Greet guests, help with admissions, and keep the museum welcoming and tidy.
  • Development & Feedback: Help collect visitor data, contribute to outreach efforts, and make your voice heard!

Each intern will receive one-on-one mentorship, guided by ScienceWorks staff, to help build professional skills, explore STEAM careers, and gain confidence in a supportive environment.

Who Should Apply?

We’re looking for teens who are:

  • curious, respectful, and eager to learn
  • interested in STEAM fields, museums, or related topics
  • reliable, with good communication skills
  • excited to try new things and be part of a team

We are committed to increasing representation of girls and young women in STEAM careers. We strongly encourage individuals from historically underrepresented groups, including girls and young women, to apply. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to sex, race, ethnicity, disability, or any other protected status.
