Field Trip Workshop Selections 2023 - 2024

We're excited to bring back some old favorites and share some new, innovative hands-on workshops with you this year. Our workshops are designed to be fun and educational for all ages, from the youngest learners to adults. For questions about workshop content or standards, please email
*Owl Pellet dissections have an additional materials fee of $30 for every 60 students.

  • LEGO Engineering: using characters from pop culture, students will be given a client with specific building instructions. They'll have to work together in small groups to design and create their client's vision. A Pokemon hotel, a Frozen playground, and an Enchanted Casita are just a few of our building challenges.

  • Robotics Space Exploration: students work in small groups to try to retrieve samples from Mars using our Ozobots. These small robots can be coded with both block code and color lines.

  • Chain Reaction Machines: students work in small groups of 4 or 5 to use our various tools and supplies to make a Rube Goldberg Machine with musical instruments. We talk about cause and effect, as well as simple machines and forces.

  • Owl Pellet Dissection: working in small groups of 2-3, students will learn about owl biology and dissect a sanitized owl pellet. They'll have the opportunity to identify bones and other biological material, and even keep their favorites if they'd like!
*Owl Pellet dissections have an additional materials fee of $30 for every 60 students.

  • Astronaut Boot Camp: this workshop has 4 stations to teach students about NASA's Artemis Mission. They'll construct a LEGO Moon Habitat, program rovers, construct basic circuits, and practice Astronaut activities with astronaut gloves.

All of our workshops are designed to be engaging for all grade levels, and we adjust our activities accordingly.

ScienceWorks Education Staff ensure each workshop focuses on NGSS Science and Engineering Practices:
1. Asking questions and defining problems
2. Developing and using models
3. Planning and carrying out investigations
4. Analyzing and interpreting data
5. Using math and computational thinking
6. Constructing an explanation and creating a solution
7. Engaging in an argument stemming from evidence
8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
