Hawaiian Volcanoes: The Birth of an Island Chain

Hawaiian volcano
Volcano
In the news:

    * March 11, 2011 cataclysmic 8.9 magnitude  earthquake and tsunami in Japan,
    * March 6, 2011 violent volcanic eruption in Hawaii,
    * February 21, 2011 7.2 magnitude earthquake in New Zealand.

Join us on July 14 at 7pm when Lenny Friedman will be showing and describing the history and causes of disruptions to the earth’s surface.

Lenny, a 38 year resident of the Rogue Valley will be showing pictures of the most recent eruption Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island.  Many of the photos were taken by a vulcanologist from the National Park Service who had a first hand visit to the volcano’s newest eruption.  Other photos and videos will be shown of his “walk on flowing lava”.

Lenny will describe the causes of earthquakes, tsunamis, history of eruptions of the Cascade Mountain Range and how the Hawaiian Islands were formed.  As Friedman is neither a geologist nor vulcanologist, the presentation will be on “Earthquake 101” nature with educational and interesting photos and videos.

Admission is free with a suggested $5 donation.
